Mercedes-Benz M-Class (2008-) Review

Channel 4 have a great review of the new Mercedes …. on their site – Here is some of their findings, but you can read the full review on the link below

Overview

Facelift is too strong a word for the revised Mercedes M-Class. The big 4×4 is making do with the mildest of aesthetic revisions and a minor tweak for the V6 diesel models.

The biggest change is that the Sport trim has been set further apart from the SE trim, with more aggressive styling and huge 20" wheels, plenty of shiny metal work and a razor-effect front grille.

Four engines carry over, a 187bhp and 221bhp 3.0-litre V6 diesel, a 302bhp twin turbo V8 diesel and two petrol’s, a 5.5-litre and 6.2-litre V8. The old 3.5-litre V6 has been dropped.

Equipment increase across the range, but so does the price. The SE is now £250 more expensive while the Sport trim rockets by £2,500, but Mercedes says this more than covers the cost of the new kit.

The big ML news comes next year with the arrival of Mercedes’ all-new hybrid power train, but for now is this ‘facelift’ enough in a struggling segment to take the battle to the BMW X5? [more]

Reliability and Quality

Mercedes-Benz has come a long way in recent years to address criticism of its reliability and quality. According to the customer satisfaction surveys, it’s paying off.

It came sixth in the recent JP Power investigation into how happy owners are with their car, making it the highest-ranking German car maker.

Inside, the M-Class impresses with mostly good plastics, although one of our cars creaked over larger bumps and during off-road adventures.

The best way to buy a Mercedes!

We all love to find all those great little ways that the prestige car buyer can get the car that they want for the best money possible. Mercedes is a brand we all know and love and in these modern times where you have Mercedes Car Leasing and plenty of nearly new product alternatives to cash hungry brand new car purchases are a thing of the past.

Put simply you can get a Mercedes CLC from £249.00 plus VAT on a 2 year contract hire. You can find a 9 month old Mercedes E Class in dealer stock that has lost the worst of its depreciation already. But the real gems in our eyes are some of the convertible, coupes and sports cars within the Mercedes range. There is some great 18 to 24 month old Used Mercedes cars out there. Owning a CLK or SLK for example you can pick up with very very low mileage, sub 20000 miles in fact for very sensible money. Well worth looking out for.

In our mind it’s well worth buying a used Mercedes Benz like this, it’s great value and you don’t have the massive cash outlay or have to suffer the depreciative hit in the first 12 months!!

Here Comes the new Mercedes E Class

Following the success of the new Mercedes C Class, MBUK has decided to follow this up with the new E Class which arrives in June. They have now simplified the range with a harder ride on the Sport Model as well as the new Blue Efficiency badged range too.

The big news though is the price drop on the car it replaces. This is excellent news not only from a buyers point of view but from a company car tax point of view. CO2 has also dropped by 11% across the range which again lowers company car tax contributions.

The specification is of a high standard with evemercedes_e_class-copyn entry level cars including bluetooth, front and rear parking sensors, climate control and artico leather all being standard. All models also include Attention Assist which monitors drivers behaviour and sounds an alarm if it believes the driver is danger of nodding off.

With a top speed on the 2.2 diesel models of 141mph and 0-62 in 9.1s and an combined mpg of 47.1, the E Class is coming closer to it’s Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series counterparts and now the price is also in line too.

The ride is unmistakably Mercedes, quiet, smooth and comfortable. The look is now more up to date and appealing on all levels with sharp lines and sleek styling. A real little gem for the first time in a long time.
